he Delhi University Executive Council (EC) is mulling to amend the university statute to allow a second term to Prof Dinesh Singh as Vice Chancellor of the university. During the upcoming meeting of the EC Among the items on agenda is amendment to Statute 11-F (4) of the Statutes of the University, where it has been proposed that "the vice-chancellor shall hold office for a term of five years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for another term". In 2009, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had written to the central universities to create provision for making the VCs eligible for a second term, it never came up for discussion at the EC of Delhi University. However, DUTA president Nandita Narain called the proposals as "Draconian amendments to Statutes and Ordinances", former DUTA president and chairperson of AAD, Aditya Narayan Mishra, said: "We are in principle against a second term to the post of VC and we feel five years is a good enough opportunity to show leadership and do good works as well as build an institution," reported Times of India.
