Nissan Evalia (e-NV200) Electric MPV to be built in India

Nissan India will build the electric version of the Evalia MPV in India. The electric version of the Evalia is known as the e-NV200 van. The electric van made its debut just days ago at the Geneva Motor Show. The electric van features a revised look compared to the regular NV200/Evalia. The electric van’s components will be imported from Barcelona, Spain. The e-NV200 built in India is meant for the Bhutan market. The government of Bhutan has made plans of replacing its entire taxi fleet with electric vehicles. Nissan has decided to build the e-NV200 in India as labour costs here are much cheaper than in Spain. Also, exporting the e-NV200 from India to Bhutan, rather than importing it from Spain works out cheaper. The electric version of the NV200 van will be available as a 5 passenger carrier and a cargo van. The e-NV200 features the familiar styling of Nissan’s electric vehicles like the Leaf. Other changes on the van include the addition of an electric motor, batteries, new transmission, new chassis and interior modifications. The battery pack and the electric motor are integrated into a single unit that is placed in the floor of the e-NV200 electric van. This placement of the battery and electric motor improves torsional rigidity and also the cabin space which would have otherwise been lost due to the placement of the bulky battery pack. The lithium ion battery pack is a 24 Kwh unit and powers the 108 Bhp electric motor. This unit has been borrowed from the Nissan Leaf electric hatchback. The batteries give the e-NV200 a range of around 170 kilometers, which should be sufficient for daily urban distances. The batteries will be recharged in 6 hours. http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/cars/nissan-evalia-env200-electric-mpv-built-india-86339/
