Report by India Education bureau, New Delhi: Luminous Power Technologies and TERI have announced their collaboration for working together on facilitating access to energy for rural households.
TERI is a not-for-profit research organization working in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development. In 2008, TERI initiated its widely acclaimed ‘Lighting a Billion Lives’ (LaBL) campaign in which close to 100,000 solar lanterns are already in use benefiting nearly 1.3 million lives across India. The campaign is promoting small and micro enterprises with a focus on energy; a network of Energy Enterprises (EEs) is set up across 16 states in India and 2500 ‘green jobs’ have been created through rural entrepreneurship. These 100 energy enterprises have indirectly catalyzed the solar market in rural areas to illuminate an additional 1.7 million lives.
Luminous- one of India’s largest and fastest growing consumer electronics and electrical company, is serving people without access to reliable electricity. It has requisite skills and capabilities to provide the clean energy technology (lighting), its marketing and other related services for the promotion of clean energy technologies in different parts of India.
TERI and Luminous will facilitate EE to focus on quality concerns related to energy access technologies. TERI will provide help in design and innovation of products based on user feedback, and will work together for the development of new channels and innovative mechanism to reach the last mile user.
Commenting on the association, Manish Pant, Managing Director, Luminous Power Technologies said, “Luminous and TERI will work towards reaching better lighting technologies to rural communities. In order to expedite the outreach and sustainability of the “Lighting a Billion Lives” program, TERI intends to broaden the technological options, specifically for lighting applications, for the end users by incorporating the product options being offered by Luminous. It has agreed to engage Luminous to supply its products and services to the grass root entrepreneurs, located in different parts of India. This partnership will also help Luminous to extend our rural reach and develop new rural energy products.”
Talking about the Initiative, Mr. I.H. Rehman, Director, Social Transformation, TERI said “We at TERI are very happy to partner with Luminous as this would help in bringing customized need-based solar lightning products to the last mile end user in rural areas
