The Malnad College of Engineering (MCE), in collaboration with Philips India, has installed solar streetlights to light up its campus in Karnataka. Both organisations have spent about Rs. 4 lakh each to install the 18 solar-powered streetlights.
K.S. Jayanth, MCE principal, said that the project took shape because of interest shown by Narendranath Udupa, who heads a Philips R&D unit in Bangalore.
“Dr. Udupa is an alumnus of the college, and also served the institution as assistant professor. With his keen interest, MCE has signed a memorandum of understanding with Philips to install solar streetlights. We shared the cost on a 50-50 basis,” the principal said
